getting started

How do I start taking CrossFit?
In order to attend CrossFit classes you must be "CrossFit ready".  This just means you need to spend time with a trainer to learn the basic movements most often used during classes and how to execute them safely.  The easiest way to start is with the Fundamentals class, offered in a four week class format or a weekend intensive.  The cost of CrossFit Fundamentals is $180. Must pay day pass or be a member.

What will I learn in a Fundamentals class that will prepare me for regular classes?
The Fundamentals class will cover the nine basic movements that comprise the CrossFit workouts and that are the foundation of more advanced movements as you progress.  You will learn how to squat, front squat, overhead squat, shoulder press, push press, push jerk, deadlift, sumo deadlift high pull and medicine ball clean.  You will also learn how to scale the exercises for your fitness level.  Each class meeting includes a warmup, an introduction of skills and/or review, and scaled version of a workout.  It is a safe and fun introduction to CrossFit.  Once you finish class, you will be able to attend our regularly scheduled CrossFit classes!

What if I am familiar with CrossFit and already know these basic movements?
You are welcome to join any of our regularly scheduled classes if you have done CrossFit before.  Be sure to show up early and speak with the coach.  Classes are included in a membership at Planet Granite or with the purchase of a day pass.

What is CrossFit Strength Focus?
This class will focus primarily on strength developement in a consistent and progressive method.  This means less variety than usually experienced with CrossFit workouts both in exercises used and the types of workouts done.  We will primarily squat, deadlift, press and bench with some shorter metabolic conditioning work (timed workouts).  There will be a coach led class on Monday and Wednesday, but participants will be encouraged to do an additional workout on their own on Friday or the weekend.

Who should do CrossFit Strength Focus?
This class is intended for the intermediate CrossFitter who wants to be stronger.  Intermediate means that you have some familiarity with standard CrossFit movements and workouts.  You need to be willing to commit to showing up and working out consistently for at least 2 months.  You need to keep a record of your workouts.  You need to be willing to cut back on longer duration workouts (no marathon running for a while).  You need to be unafraid of eating.  Everyone will work at their own level, but you will be expected to push yourself a little harder every workout.
